Rotary Foundation of Green Bay, Inc. Announces Donations

For Immediate Release

June 9, 2008

(Green Bay)  The Rotary Foundation of Green Bay, Inc. announced it provided 17 area community organizations nearly $28,000 in grants for charitable and educational purposes in the past year.

All recipient organizations were not-for-profit and from varied sectors. They included human services, education, youth leadership, disabled veterans and others. The Foundation’s focus is on groups aiding youth and education.

“We may not have the giving power of some other local foundations,” said Kramer Rock, Foundation Board President, “but with an average gift of more than $1600, we do impact many local area not-for-profits’ ability to implement their programs.”

In 1960, members of the Rotary Club of Green Bay established a foundation. The foundation’s purpose is to assist, financially and in other ways, charitable and educational projects benefiting the local community. More than $175,000 has been contributed over the past 10 years alone.

The majority of Foundation funding comes from contributions made by Rotary Club of Green Bay members and net proceeds of the annual Rotary Free Enterprise Award event, which honors a local businessperson.

“Rotary’s motto is service above self and this is one way we give back to our community,” said Rock.

Rotary International is a global service organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional and community leaders. The Rotary Club of Green Bay was chartered in 1917 and has nearly 100 members.
