FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October, 2010
(Green Bay, WI) The Rotary Foundation of Green Bay, Inc. announced it gave over $30,000 in grants and awards for charitable and educational purposes to area not-for-profit organizations in the past 15 months.
“While we provide funds to a variety of groups and organizations,” explained Foundation President, Kramer Rock, “we particularly embrace those addressing youth and education.”
The Brown County recipient organizations were from human services, education, youth leadership, arts/culture and other sectors.
The foundation also provided $5,000 in scholarships and stipends to graduating seniors of many Brown County High Schools.
“We may not have the giving power of some other local foundations” said Rock, ”but in these challenging economic times an average gift of more than $1,500 does impact local area not-for-profits’ ability to implement their programs.”
Rotary Club of Green Bay members established the foundation in 1960. Its purpose is to assist, financially and in other ways, charitable and educational projects benefiting the local community. The recent $30,000 is part of more than $250,000 provided locally over the past 10 years alone.
The majority of foundation funding comes from contributions made by Rotary Club of Green Bay members and net proceeds of the annual Rotary Free Enterprise Award event that honors a local businessperson.
The Rotary Club of Green Bay is part of Rotary International, a global service organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional and community leaders. The Rotary Club of Green Bay was chartered in 1917 and has nearly 100 members.
