A butterfly inspired by a 1957 Bel-Air automobile; a realistic (greatly enlarged) representation of the endangered Panamanian Golden Frog; and a crane inspired by the Great Blue Heron are just three of 32 art pieces making the Green Bay community more interesting this summer, as part of The Einstein Project’s 2008 Butterflies & Friends on Parade.
Presented by Green Bay Packaging and Schreiber Foods, the 2008 Butterflies & Friends on Parade event is a community-wide art exhibit featuring the creative interpretations of artists on metal and fiberglass forms representing butterflies and frogs, and new this year, cranes, built by the artists from the ground up!
Amateur and professional artists from around Wisconsin created fantastic pieces such as Jazzy Allure (a blue butterfly native to Southern Wisconsin), Rocky the Beach Toad (a stone encrusted frog) and Flirtatious Dancer (six-foot tall fiberglass crane). All of the art pieces have been sponsored this year.
One sponsored by the Rotary Foundation of Green Bay – a butterfly named “The Art of Money”, by Diana Resch-Kientop is displayed south of the Walnut Street Bridge on the east side of the river along the Fox River Trail.
The finale to the Parade will be a September 23 auction (save the date!) where the art pieces will be sold, with all proceeds benefiting The Einstein Project, a non-profit school-business-community partnership dedicated to improving the quality of science education for K-8 students throughout the state.
