Projects Summary

The Rotary Club of Green Bay participates in and supports many community activities. As Rotary’s motto is “Service Above Self,” we take this seriously and fully expect and encourage all Club members to participate in community projects. We are honored to have repeatedly received the Presidential Citation from the president of Rotary International for our performance in Rotary's Four Avenues of Service: Club Service, Community Service, Vocational Service and International Service.

Some of the specific projects of the club include:

  • Ambassadorial Scholarship Program which is the world’s largest, privately funded scholarship program. Each year, it provides approximately 800 scholarships internationally – with each scholarship at $24,000 – nearly $20 million total.
  • Awards such as Adult Youth Leadership Award, Vocational Service Award, and Member of the Year Award.
  • The annual Free Enterprise Award banquet honoring a business and community leader. Besides honoring outstanding leaders of the Green Bay community, the event also serves as the primary fundraiser for the Green Bay Rotary Local Foundation, which provides financial support to many worthy community non-profit groups with emphasis on those benefiting youth and business awareness.
  • Healthy Teeth, Healthy Kids project in which more than $1.6 million in local contributions and grants was raised. This dental program targeted children in the Green Bay Area Public School system that were unable to receive dental care. The program was so successful that it was spun off into a separate non-profit 501(c)3 organization through the Brown County Oral Health Partnership.
  • International projects include supporting those in need in Haiti, Bolivia or other countries. Having an international focus is a major goal of Rotary International with projects such as Polio, and Shelter Box for disaster relief.
  • Men’s Closet, which provides clothing for men in need. Partnering with the Salvation Army, this program has had nearly 1,700 visitors since its inception in August 2004.

  • Polio eradication, which is Rotary’s main goal is to eradicate polio and it is succeeding. This is such an important initiative that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated a $100 million challenge grant to Rotary International.
  • Poverty & Hunger as this has been deemed an important issue in the Green Bay community.
  • Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) program, featuring international fellowship with a high school student from another country. This year's student is Ana Irma Guirado Benedetto (Mima) from Brazil. Learn more about Mima and the RYE program.
  • Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and conference is responsible for recruiting, selecting and sponsoring young people to attend the District 6220 RYLA Conference. This helps demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth, provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders, encourage leadership of youth by youth, and recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities. • Shelter Box program for disaster relief. This program provides shelter, blankets, tools, nets and many other disaster relief equipment for up to 10 people for a minimum of 6 months. Since 2001, more than 500,000 Shelter Boxes have been distributed in more than 40 countries – including the U.S. In addition, Rotary’s Shelter Box Response Team was the first and only group to get to the most devastated area in Myanmar after its recent cyclone devastation.
  • Student Leadership Awards whereby every year our Club honors two outstanding seniors at six local high schools. Students, parents and school administrators participate in a club meeting and each student receives a scholarship.

In addition to the numerous local and international service projects above, our Club also helps annually with Salvation Army bell ringing and many other local organizations as needed.
